5 out of 5 stars Fantastic new release from PSB!   November 15, 2009

Finishing off what has been an amazing year for the Pet Shop Boys, December sees them releasing this brilliant 5-track Christmas EP. First off is a new version of It Doesn't Often Snow At Christmas, a track originally released in 1997 as a fan-club exclusive. It's full of festive cheer with bells and all! Upbeat and full of classic PSB humour, it's a charming little track.

My Girl is even better, a cover of the classic Madness track. Beefed up from the original demo appearing on the Boys' site in 2008, the chorus is perfection. We also get the extended `Our House' mix later on the EP which ups the dance vibe and adds some trancey synth hooks in.

Appearing as in many ways the 4th single from the Boys' Yes album we get a new version of the amazing All Over The World. Personally i prefer the original version but this one suits the Christmas feel of the EP with a new, dreamy string section. It feels softer and i think on the whole fans are just glad that this wonderful track is getting the exposure it finally deserves.

And lastly, we have, what was for me anyway, the thing i had been looking forward to most on this EP - the studio version of the awesome Viva La Vida / Domino Dancing mash-up the Boys' had performed live on tour. Now, listening to it here, it's still fantastic, but it lacks the all-out `WOW!' factor of experiencing with a live audience. The track feels a little flat and the 1 minute drum intro could possibly have been cut. The Domino Dancing synth hook is just as infectious as ever though and the Boys' version of Coldplay's hit song is extremely well done indeed.

The only other thing that could have made this EP even better would have been the Boys' version of The Loving Kind - the song they wrote for Girls Aloud. Nevertheless, this is a great release and a must-buy for Pet Shop Boys fans.

Let's make it short - as has been noted before in these reviews someone made a BIG mistake here, Viva La Vida had Christmas number 1 written all over it - did we forget Always On My Mind... Such a shame, let's hope this is not the last opportunity. OK Boys (and management) redeem yourselves by issuing a load of remixes of this THE standout track of 2009!

It is Xmas time and PSB is fun. It's wonderful that this pop duo is producing such wonderful songs after so many many years. Just enjoy this trip. Every song is a jewel and IT DOESN'T OFTEN SNOW AT CHRISTMAS is the best Xmas song ever. Thank you boys!

5 out of 5 stars ¡Great Pet Shop Boys EP! ¡Greetings from Lima-Perú!   December 26, 2009

When the PSB came to Lima and sang Viva La Vida/Domino Dancing, it was definitely a highlight on the show. I hadn't paid much attention to the Coldplay original version, but now mixed with Domino Dancing it had a different flavour. The other tracks on this EP are really good, I specially like My Girl and the new version of It Doesn't Often Snow At Christmas, a song which I had only heard on youtube.

Thank you Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe for giving us these songs before the year ends; and thank you very much for having come to Lima, it was a concert I'd been waiting for for almost 10 years, and a concert I WILL NEVER FORGET. Let me tell you, your concert is on the top 5 of "the best concerts of the year" reviews here in my country. I do hope you come again on your next tour, and I'm already looking forward to your upcoming Live CD+DVD, it will surely bring the sweetest memories of 2009.

5 out of 5 stars Best Christmas EP ever   December 16, 2009

The tradition being that Christmas songs must be either depressingly melancholy or merry to the point of dumbness, the Pet Shop Boys manage to mingle partying with a touch of irony that gives the final collection of songs a rare spiciness for extra flavour, while keeping the songs accesible to all audiences, from the mainstream to the club-goers. Genius.
